Ketamine experiences typically last for one hour, including a 10-minute period where the oral tablet is swished and subsequently spat out.
Within 10 minutes of taking the tablet, the effects of ketamine begin to take hold. At lower doses, the experience can be incredibly relaxing, whereas at moderate to high doses, the experience tends to be more psychedelic and transformative with perceptual changes and dream-like visual phenomena.
The peak effects typically occur around 30-40 minutes after ingestion and will taper off over the remaining 20 minutes. The majority of the psychological effects subsist for approximately an hour, with mild residual side effects such as grogginess, lightheadedness, or nausea lingering another hour beyond that.
The vast majority of patients will feel completely back to normal without any lingering effects within three to four hours.
